After 50 years in Valby, the Grønttorv has exhausted its growth opportunities, and the
businesses are in need of more space, better logistics, and modern service facilities.
Therefore, Northern Europe's largest marketplace and distribution centre for produce, flowers, and arts and crafts, is now being built on a 220.000 m2 area in Høje Taastrup, West of Copenhagen. E. Pihl & Søn A/S is behind the construction and Pihl's winning consortium consists of Creo Arkitekter, Schønherr Landskab, and engineering firm Moe & Brødsgard.
The inspiration to develop Copenhagen Markets has been taken from the leading international markets such as Rungis in Paris, but also FrischeZentrum in Frankfurt and C.A.R. in Rome, where they have successfully collected all of the food under one roof, while moving the markets out of the inner city.
The 80 million EUR construction will be completed in 2010, and remains to date Denmark's largest warehouse and distribution building ever. Copenhagen Markets is being managed digitally with Docia.
